Rationale

The Solar Polarization Workshop 11 (SPW11) is organized by the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague from September 8th to 12th, 2025. This edition of SPW carries special significance as it commemorates the 30th anniversary since the inception of the Solar Polarization Workshop series, which originated in St. Petersburg in 1995. SPW11 is dedicated to honoring the remarkable contributions of Prof. Javier Trujillo Bueno, a distinguished figure in the field of solar polarization research.

The Solar Polarization Workshop series serves as a vital platform for scientists to convene and discuss advancements, challenges, and opportunities in the field of solar and extrasolar polarization. With each iteration, these workshops have significantly contributed to our understanding of radiative transfer in solar and stellar atmospheres, the Sun's magnetic fields, and solar physics in general. SPW11 aims to continue this tradition of fostering collaboration and innovation in the field of solar polarization.

News - travel support

Thanks to the funding from the Thomas Metcalf Travel Award Committee, we are pleased to offer travel support of up to $1200 for one Metcalf Awardee. To be eligible, applicants must either be within four years of their PhD defense at the time of the meeting or be a PhD student planning to defend within one year of the SPW 11 meeting. Full eligibility criteria can be found here. Applicants are encouraged to complete the application form (a letter of recommendation is also required) and submit an abstract by May 16, 2025. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the selection process by May 30, 2025.

Additionally, with the support of our partners and meeting organizers, we are able to waive the registration fee for a limited number of participants. To apply for a registration fee waiver, please complete this form and submit an abstract by May 16, 2025. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the selection process by June 30, 2025.

Sessions

The primary focus of the meeting encompasses theoretical aspects and modeling of solar polarization, alongside the analysis and interpretation of polarization signals in the solar photosphere, chromosphere, and corona. Additionally, discussions will center on instrumentation advancements and the origin and evolution of stellar magnetic fields.

Session 1 - Instrumentation

Session 2 - Observations and Data Analysis

Session 3 - Origin and Evolution of Stellar Magnetic Fields: Theories and Observational Constraints

Session 4 - Modeling Polarization: Theory and Methods

Session 5 - Inverse Problem: Methods and Applications
